Both tools put the same audience on screen. The choice comes down to four things: where the data is allowed to live, how many people present, how big the rooms are, and which software you are already standing in.

Why is there no word cloud on Vevox's free plan?

Because it simply is not in it. Vevox's free plan carries unlimited multiple-choice polling, quizzing and Q&A for up to 100 participants — the word cloud, numeric polls, ranking, sliders and open text start on the Starter plan at €143.40 a year. That is unusual: every other vendor in this comparison includes the word cloud for free, and it is at the same time the single most-searched format in the category.
omul
omul puts no feature behind a plan. Word cloud, scales, ranking, open text and every other format are included in every edition, including the self-hosted one, which carries no licence fee anyway.

Is Vevox GDPR-compliant?

Largely, and the vendor visibly works at it: Auga Technologies Ltd is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and its security page says data sits on AWS in Ireland (eu-west-1) or the US (US-East) depending on location. Two things remain to check: which of the two regions applies to your organisation, and that the operator is in the United Kingdom — a third country under the GDPR, currently covered by an adequacy decision. An adequacy decision is a Commission decision, and it can be reviewed and withdrawn.
omul
With a self-hosted omul neither question arises: there is no region to establish and no operator in a third country, because you are the operator. If you would rather not self-host, the EU-hosted edition comes with a DPA. In fairness: omul has no ISO 27001 — self-hosting means the operation an auditor examines is yours.

Self-hosting omul carries no licence fee, only the server; the hosted edition is planned as a flat per-workspace price regardless of how many people present, and its billing is still being built. The point against Vevox is not the size of the price but that a second person who wants to present leads straight into a sales conversation.

Does omul run inside Microsoft Teams?

Vevox does, and on the free plan already: a Teams app and a PowerPoint add-in are in every plan, along with Zoom, Webex and several learning platforms. For organisations whose meetings happen in Teams, that is the strongest argument for Vevox.
omul
omul has none of it. It runs in the browser, and the audience arrives through a six-digit code, a link or a QR code — the same in a lecture hall as in a shared screen, but not as a panel in the meeting window. There is no PowerPoint import either.
Can you approve questions before they appear?

From the Pro plan, yes: Vevox brings Q&A moderation and management there, along with speed-scored quizzes and branding.

Vevox prices per vevox.com/pricing/business-plans on 05.09.2026: Pro at €24.95 a month, taken over twelve months here. Vevox was advertising a 20% discount code on that day; a promotional price is not a list price and is therefore not in the table. "From" precedes the total because Vevox routes a second presenting person to the Enterprise plan, which has no list price — the real figure for this case only emerges in a conversation. A self-hosted omul costs no licence but does cost a server and the time to run it, and has neither the Teams integration nor attendance tracking.
Switching
How much work is moving off Vevox?
The switch is awkward in one place, and it is not the technology: if you use Vevox inside Microsoft Teams, you are leaving the meeting window. The questions have to be rebuilt.
Rebuild the questions
omul reads neither Vevox exports nor PowerPoint files. A twenty-question deck is about an hour's work. An importer is logged as a requirement but not built.
Leaving the meeting window
Vevox lives as a Teams app and a PowerPoint add-in; omul in a second browser window you share. Nothing changes for in-person events; the run of show changes for pure video calls.
Export your results first
Vevox exports from the Starter plan upwards. Pull the analyses you want to keep before you cancel — the free plan has no export at all.
Attendance tracking goes away
Vevox advertises attendance tracking as a feature of its own; omul does not have it. If you use it to produce attendance records, switching is a bad idea.
